Enhancements

Adding closed captions to videos

You can now enhance your video content with closed captions that are displayed while the video plays, offering improved accessibility and engagement.

Note: To enable this functionality, open a Support ticket

To upload the captions file:

  1. Go to the post where you have posted the video.
  2. Click the View in my videos link. The video gallery page opens.
  3. Open the View Options menu and select Upload Closed Captions.

A window to upload the captions file appears.

4. Upload the closed captions file (.srt or .vtt formats).

5. Click the CC button on the bottom of the video’s screen and click Captions (En-US).

6. Play the video.

The script you entered in the captions file appears as the video plays.

Notes

  • Admins and moderators can upload caption files to any uploaded video.
  • Members with Upload videos and Add uploaded videos to posts permissions can upload the captions files only on the videos that they upload.
  • Although the captions option shows only English-US, you can upload scripts in any language. The script you upload is displayed when the video plays.

Aurora Release Updates

You Found it! We Fixed it!

General fix

  • During an upgrade from a Classic Community to Aurora, previously migrated images were ignored and were not displayed after the upgrade. This issue was fixed in Classic Community 23.8. All affected communities will automatically receive the fix in Classic Community 23.10 release.
  • The issue where members were unable to get size information related to uploaded images and videos in the community via API calls is fixed.

Accessibility fix

  • The issue where the screen reader did not announce the state of the selected list item on the gallery screen is fixed.

Version 6.0
  • Hi VedanthY,

We were talking about videos on some platforms (like YouTube) being processed automatically for subtitles/captions so that the video content itself can be searchable. The Closed Caption files would be a good way to make that possible on this platform.

  • I have had this type of request for our podcasts as well.

  • Thanksfor the gallery a11y fix 👍

AshaCThe classic version numbers in the Aurora fix should probably state 23.8 and 23.10 instead of 22.8 and 22.10?

    Hi Drew_C ,

Content in Closed caption files is not currently searchable, but we are curious to know the use case you are trying to solve if we make it searchable.

  • Hi Everyone,

Can you please help me out from where i can get the custom settings and how to replicate this issue where members failed to update custom settings via API V2 call for the community versions v22.11 or later ?
