Hi all,
I am trying to do some research into what is 'industry standard' for archiving of content. I would love it if you could share with me the following information:
Sorry for all the questions I am just trying to get a broad a view as possible on the "What do you archive? Where do you archive? How do you archive and why do you archive?"
Interesting topic! We dont use/do archiving yet but we are going to, soon. So I dont have answers yet but few thoughts what I think about this today:
@allensmith81 wrote:How do you decide which content to archive?
I am going to look what our users have read last week / month and then I am going to look what was the answer or info what they have got from there. If it is outdated then I am going to archive old content and replace them with the latest content.

Did you face any pushback from the business around archiving content?
This is something that I am probably going to co-operate with them, what is the info they want to share with the customers right now. I hope later on they are going to be active to me, I dont have to ask from them so much.

I hope so and I mean because of we get more traffic to the certain url. We´ll see what happens.

No, I am going to just start doing this and if someone asks then I tell of course. I think they will understand that info what is given today is old after "10 years".

Great topic. We too are looking forward to utilizing bulk archive when it comes out. I'm sure we have lots of outdated content to archive.
Our first target will be forum questions that did not receive a single reply and are over a certain age. It is pretty safe to assume they are not going to be answered at this point and likely are bogging down search results. Of course we will look to see if any are seeing a large amount of views to determine if there are posts we can redirect people to or if new content is needed on the subject.
Once we do this clean up we are going to evaluate how it affects things like SEO and search results before determining our next target. We also don't plan to publish an archive policy unless a use case arises where it makes sense to inform the community.
