Friend Unfriend

I am looking to build a community. Can i use the friend/unfriend feature for follow/unfollow, like can i change it in configuration setting or using some api.

Lets say there are 3 users in community A,B,C. Can i do the following
1. A clicks a follow on profile of B. A is now following B and hence will receive notification on activity of B.

2. B sends a follow request to A. A may or may not accept the request.

3. C blocks B, hence B cannot send a follow request to C.

Are all the above 3 cases possible and configurable using the friend/unfriend feature.

Hi @shrutipanwar22

As far as I know the 3 cases you mention above are not possible.

You can read up on the friends feature here below. Looking at the description and comments from other members, it seems that other folks are looking for the same/similar functionality that you are asking about.

You might want to add some kudos to this idea here.

Hi @Wendy_S

I don't have permission to access the links you shared, how to get access these.

@shrutipanwar22

I did not realize you did not have access to all areas Lithosphere.

Here's how to request access.

  • If you don’t have the proper access, you’re missing out on exclusive forums, customer ideas, the Support area, which includes online training, knowledge base articles,  and much more! So don't hesitate to reach out, and we'll get you sorted.
  • Any removal or access requests can be directed to: communityhelp@lithium.com via email

Hope this helps.

I have requested access so let me see if i can read the information you intent to share.

Good day @Wendy_S

Is it possible to follow the content of Friends?
Can I subscribe to their content so I am made aware when they post or create something new?
My goal is to monitor customers to get alerts when they post; rather than getting alerted to content posted, I would like to know when specific people post.
Cheers and thank you,
Toby

Good question. As far as I know this is not possible.Adding as a friends just adds a link to their profile on your user profile page

The ability to 'follow' members (to the extent of being alerted to when they post new content) has been a long-requested improvement to our product, which I too believe would be very helpful.  Hopefully, one day it will happen!

In the meanwhile, there is a bit of a hack / workaround (although we have obfuscated it here with javascript / CSS on the Khoros Community) that goes back as far as our one-dimensional 'Friends' feature.  You can get an RSS feed to a member's content!  I know, I know;  it is a very late web 1.0-ish technology, but nonetheless, your community can expose that option, and even better, if you really put on your clever trousers, you could take that RSS feed XML output and put it into some kind of container which would then feed back into a logged-in member's custom widget.  But now I am getting my mad-scientist on with that particular suggestion.

The point is that 'following' another member's content is not currently available through the 'friends' feature in Khoros Community software today, and the hairshirt alternative that I described above is less than ideal.

Best thing to do is to suggest a new idea, or better yet, vote on the prior ideas that have suggested Khoros make this particular type of improvement to our software.

Thanks @Wendy_S  - not what I was hoping for, but what I expected.
I really appreciate your reply. Have a fine weekend.
Cheers,

Thanks @JakeR - so let's get to it then! 😁
There are many former Jive users / Community Managers within who are used to following by person and not just conversation or space.
I really appreciate your reply and will check the ideas space and vote up one that is existing or create new if needed.
Best,
Toby

PS @Wendy_S  - here is an idea to follow members https://community.khoros.com/t5/Li-Product-Ideas/Subscribe-Follow-to-a-User-Profile/idc-p/518502#M16... (would you please give it a vote)?
