End the Google moratorium

This board absolutely, positively needs to be indexed by Google. The fact that virtually no answers to Khoros questions can be found on Google, because the platform is not open source, and the main technical Q&A forum (Atlas) is not indexable by Google, is maddening for your customers.

Open it up. Stop gatekeeping the info we all need to make our communities better.

Pass this along to the big cheeses at Khoros.

  • +1. I would love to be able to just shoot API documentation over to an engineer internally without a week long registration/approval process would be amazing, having all of the content on Atlas actually searchable would just be magic.

  • StanGromer I *think* the API docs just require someone to log in, not to be approved as a customer. No approval necessary. Tho I may be misremembering

(not to say I don't agree that they should just be accessible!! Especially since Khoros' search is nowhere near as good as Google's)

  • I didn't even know this was the case and I don't recall it being like that when I joined years ago. Odd for Atlas to be going against Community best practice as being taught by Khoros itself.

  • I can confirm dev docs are available for normal users.

Customer access must be requested for platform documentation within Atlas though

Hey all, hope your week's going well. Thanks a bunch obrienpaule for sharing this feedback and the rest for sharing your thoughts too!

It sounds like there are a couple of issues being identified here:

    • Difficulty finding information in search currently on Atlas
    • Content being restricted that's needed by others who don't have an elevated access role on the community
    • Slow approvals on role granting for elevated access

We've identified a few ways to solve the first problem - some will happen with our restructure in our Aurora upgrade, while others may happen a bit sooner, though I don't have details to share yet as they're being finalized.

As far as product doc access goes, developer docs at least should be available to almost everyone, with the exception of Community dev docs which require an Atlas account with elevated access to view.

For general use product doc access, we try to grant access to these within 24 hours on business days, but please let me know if you don't hear back within that time frame and I'll expedite it to our mod team.

I've certainly heard proponents among customers and at Khoros for making our community (at least product docs) indexable by Google, and I'm happy to pass those on to higher ups as well!

Please feel free to continue sharing your feedback below, esp. in case I missed any questions / concerns! ğŸ˜…

  • "...with the exception of Community dev docs which require an Atlas account with elevated access to view. "

but why... I just googled multiple "competitor API" and found more and more and more and more and more docs all readily available. Is it a huge deal?  Nah.  I just don't get it, but I also have this hugely deep belief in APIs.

  • I would really just love to be able to find my answers from here on Google, since their algo is so vastly superior to anyone else's search. I'd still end up coming to Atlas, but I am sure I'd find my answers quicker if Google could index this site.

  • +Future proof if everything is accessible, Khoros knowledge will be available to the world of GenAI.  Google is already dying to me, I want to just be able to ask ChatGPT anything and everything!

  • Well, just to chime in on my own experience...all I wanted to know is what defines "Number of First Replies", which I expected to be a quick Google search when strung with "Khoros" and "Communities" but I felt like I was just spinning in circles. I wouldn't mind having to log in to see the answers if it just plopped me to the page I needed.

On that note, does anyone else ever have a hard time just finding answers in the Khoros search function? Sigh.
