Cross-Board posting - Best practices & FAQ

How to best use Cross-Board posting and any frequent questions.

Best practices

Announce the feature before enabling it. Members will not discover the button without prompting. Create a pinned post explaining they can now post from anywhere in the community.

Maximizing posting rate

Practice

Why it matters

Enable globally first, then tune

Start with both toggles ON. Observe for 2–4 weeks before restricting to specific locations.

Keep board names short and specific

Members scan the picker list. Vague names like “General” cause hesitation. Rename boards before enabling.

Archive low-traffic boards before launch

Fewer choices in the picker = faster, more confident selection.

Use search to navigate large communities

For communities with many boards, direct members to type in the “Search boards” field rather than expanding every category folder.

Monitor mis-post rate weekly

A persistently high moderator move rate signals board names or descriptions need improving.

Test the flow as a regular member

Periodically use a test account to run the full flow and catch permission or UX regressions.

Common mistakes to avoid

Mistake

Better approach

Enabling without announcing it

Always post a pinned announcement. Members won’t discover the button unless told.

Too many boards in the picker

Archive or consolidate low-traffic boards first.

Vague board names (“Misc”, “Other”)

Rename boards before enabling; clarity drives correct board selection.

Not tracking mis-post rate after launch

Without a baseline, you cannot tell if the feature is reducing friction.

Expecting the /groups page to show the button

The entry point is on individual group hub pages, not the /groups listing directory.

FAQ

What does the board picker look like?
The picker has three parts: a “Search boards” search field at the top; a “CURRENT BOARD” section showing the pre-selected board; and an “ALL BOARDS” section listing categories as expandable folder rows and direct boards with coloured board-type icons. A “Show More” link loads additional boards, and a footer reads “Only boards you have access to are shown.”

How do I find a specific board in the picker?
Type its name in the “Search boards” field - the list filters in real time. Alternatively, click a category folder row (the ones with a › chevron) to expand it and see the boards inside.

Why does board selection happen before I start writing?
The post editor is board-specific. Custom fields, preset tags, poll eligibility, autosave, and content workflow all require the destination board to be known before the editor loads.

Can I change the destination board after I start writing?
Yes. Use the “Posting to:” dropdown at the top of the editor at any point before publishing. Your title and body are preserved. Board-specific fields reset for the new board, and a toast notification informs you.

Why is the button not showing on the /groups page?
The /groups directory listing page does not have a configurable page template in the Designer tool - there is no surface to place the CTA. The button is available on individual group hub pages. This is a known v1 limitation.

Can I change the button text?
Yes. Go to Designer → Page Templates, select the template (Home, Category Dashboard, or Group Dashboard), open the hero/banner section settings, and update the button text. The default is “Create Post.”

What do anonymous users see?
Anonymous users see the “Create Post” button. Clicking it redirects them to the sign-in page.

What do partially registered users see?
Partially registered users (unverified email) see the button. Clicking it prompts them to verify their email before proceeding.

What happens when I discard a post?
You are returned to the original page where you clicked the CTA - the homepage, the category page, or the group hub page - not the destination board.

Does Cross-Board Posting bypass moderation?
No. Every post goes through the destination board’s full moderation workflow - pre-moderation, AI moderation, spam filtering - exactly as if posted directly on that board.

Why is a board not showing in the picker?
Check: (1) the member has Create permission on that board, (2) the board is not archived, (3) if it is a group board, the member belongs to the group.

Can I add a poll to a cross-board post?
Yes, if the destination board has polls enabled. All poll settings for that board apply. See the Polls User Guide for configuration details.

Does Cross-Board Posting work on mobile?
Yes. The entry point, board picker, and editor are fully responsive on all mobile browsers.
