Highlight - adjusts the url in the address bar (typically adding an anchor point) to load the page at that specific post (basically, "get direct link".

Hi @IanM,

Highlight - The option in the drop down when selected for a particular reply in a thread will change the URL to be for that specific reply.

If I wanted to send you a URL or a link that would take you to a specific reply in a long thread, I would select Highlight from the Options drop down, and then send you the resulting URL. That way you could go directly to that particular reply.

You may refer to this thread - https://community.lithium.com/t5/Customer-Connection/What-does-the-highlight-feature-do/m-p/17590#M1...

Highlight is possibly the worst name for that feature, I believe it should be called Direct Link or something similar.

It does highlight it when you follow the direct link.  I agree, direct link would be a more clear name.

Since we already went a bit off topic in regard to the "Highlighting" feature:

If you use this feature on the Lithium Community you will see that the selected message is both scrolled to when followed and indeed highlighted with a yellow golden border. This used to be the out of the box styling before the responsive redesign in 2016. This styling can be added to your community as well by using the following:

span:first-of-type[aria-label="Highlighted"]+div .lia-message-view-display {
    background: lightyellow;
    border: 1px solid #f4b93b;
    box-shadow: 0 2px 2px #f4b93b;
}

Just replace lightyellow and #f4b93b with colors that stand out, but fit to your community's color scheme.

"Sort by Topics" - Sort messages by thread

Since the responsive skin doesn't have any UI support (i.e. there's no indentation showing for messages in threaded topic view) for the threaded view it's a bit hard to follow what's happening there. But basically it will traverse the topic reply structure by thread, e.g. show replies first disregarding reply date. The parent-child connection of a reply is established through next to which message the button is clicked.

Here's my crude attempt to explain the different message listing. Blue box texts show replies in chronological order, the orange circles if it would be sorted by thread.

I had no idea that is what sort by topic did. Assuming you could set that as a default and with a little bit of styling you could get threaded (indented) replies going on Community I assume. Very interesting.
