In one of our forums, the product managers want to force labels that are fairly long. We have the labels widget at the top of the forum. The problem is that these labels are too long for the default columns defined in the labels widget. I looked at the instructions for that widget under "How Do I Configure This?" and it says you can edit the XML and add a size parameter like this:
And I've tried that but it doesn't change anything. Am I misinterpreting the configuration instructions? Bottom line: How do I get the Labels widget to have fewer/wider columns to fit long labels? Thanks in advance.
I'd encourage you to go outside the box...
We're A/B testing a couple of solutions for displaying a long list of fairly long labels. Check out the version on our home page at https://www.workshop.com.au/ and compared to a carousel we build which we currently have on the All Discussions page at https://www.workshop.com.au/t5/Discussion/ct-p/discussion
@kgroneman- Just for the clarification, are you having an issue to display number or labels? or the number of characters per labels?
labelDisplaySize=20 can control the number of labels you want to show on the page. You can also change this setting from community admin.
Admin - Features - Labels - Number of labels.
However, if you want to control the character, there are no settings available for this. Either you should control this using CSS or go with the @JasonHill approach. Create a custom component where you can control the character using freemarker.
Below is the API call which you can use to get predefined labels.
Thanks @TariqGrazitti and @JasonHill. I think I'm just going to tell our product managers to use shorter labels. @JasonHill, I like what you've done. Maybe I can get our PMs to start using pictures instead of being long worded. 🙂 I can test this, but do either of you know, offhand, what the default max character count is for a label?
I can't see any evidence that there is a max character count @kgroneman. Good luck in getting your PMs to be more concise though!
