Designed regression in PM v3 when composing Private Message

Jump to solution

After receiving some styling direction in the topic Private Messenger v3 styling and layout we managed to get Private Messaging to a polished state. It's indeed a great progress in UX to have PMs shown as conversations. Unfortunately though during our testing we discovered what we think is a bug. When clicking a "Send PM" link, e.g. from a profile page in the current PM v2 feature version you will be dropped right on the PM compose view, i.e. https://community.khoros.com/t5/notes/composepage/note-to-user-id/73186

This same link in v3 feature version just drops the user in their inbox. They would need to click the "New message" button in order to open the compose lightbox overlay dialog. This is a huge blocker in the PM experience. When flagged to Khoros support we were told it is working as designed and we would need to engage Professional Service to created the same experience as on v2.

We are actually thinking about using v2 for that reason which would be quite a setback again. I hope Khoros can reconsider this designed behaviour and will ensure feature upgrades are indeed upgrades.

@Claudius Clicking on "Send a message" will open a compose modal window as seen below in the screenshot

As you can see, I am on a user profile and clicking on "Send a message" opened the compose modal window right within the page.

If you have a pre-formed URL such as https://community.khoros.com/t5/notes/composepage/note-to-user-id/73186 , you will be redirected to a compose page (a new page) as shown in the below screenshot

In the above screenshot, I have pasted a similar pre-formed URL on our environment and it opens compose page. Once a message is composed and sent, user will be redirected to Private Message page.

Please ask the Support team to raise a ticket with the Engineering team and provide me with the case #id, I will follow up on it.

Please let me know if you have more questions. Happy to help to get back on to v3! 🖖

Re: Designed regression in PM v3 when composing Private Message

Sohil helped with some details on using the right components via PM, but wanted to share here as well:

  1. Important to use <@component id="send-message-button"/> to embed the send private message button that triggers the overlay dialog. After I replaced my code with this one I get the experience in Sohil's first screenshot. NB: This is not listed in Studio's component list so you need to manually add to the Quilt XML (without the @) or your custom component.
  2. For some strange reason when testing today the "old style" /t5/notes/composepage/note-to-user-id/12345 link did work and yielded the result shown in Sohil's second screenshot.

So all in all signals are green again for Private Message v3 🕺
