Hi,
is it somehow possible to disallow answers in a specific Category or Board for all users?
Creating new Topics should still be possible.
Hi @mbiel,
Yes, you can disable solutions at the node level. Just go to Admin > Features > Accepted Solutions for the category or board.
Thanks @lilim , but my intention was to block all replies in general, not just accepting of solutions.
Yes, that is possible. You would leave the Topics -> Start topics permission enabled and deny the Posts -> Submit posts permissions for the role you want to be able to start topics only. See below screenshot for how this would look:
Hi @Claudius ,
thank you for your reply. This looks like a quite obvious solution. I just tried it but it doesn't work as expected. I've set the rights for all users to the following:
At first it looks fine. The answer button ist disabled, but if a normal registered user now tries to create a new topic he has not enough access rights.
As soon as I allow "Submit posts" again, it's working.
So why do we have separate rights for topic and posts if creating topics requires posts too? 😕
Interesting. I also tried the above but I set "submit posts" to explicit grant rather than default grant - but it was the same result.
If the permissions are coupled like that, you may need to use CSS to hide the reply buttons from the board.
I thought there was a way to hide the reply button using css and then set this for the note.
We use this on one of our categories, let me know if you are interested in more info and I will ping our developer. 😃
Disappointing that this doesn't work as the permission descriptions suggest it should:
Submit Posts: Reply to community messages. Typically, you grant this permission at the community level unless you want to create read-only categories or boards. (Default = Grant; recommended for everyone)
Start Topics: Submit new non-reply messages. Typically, you grant this permission at the community level unless you want to create reply-only categories or boards. (Default = Grant; recommended for everyone)
I'm particularly intrigued, because these descriptions explicitly differentiate "reply" and "non-reply messages"l
Can someone from Khoros product team please clarify what the expected / designed behaviour is when using the above permission combination? ( @NickH )
As a "quick and dirty" solution you could choose "block new replies" for each individual Thread within the board?
Hi there. I looked into it, and there does indeed seem to be a discrepancy in what the permission says it does vs what it actually requires in order to function.
The "Start a topic" button does in fact seem to require both Start Topic and Submit Posts granted in order to activate.
I'll file a ticket to update the permission description and documentation. Thanks for calling this out!
