FYI for all - The Group hub invite via email invite that goes out has no unsubscribe mechanism - This causes some huge headaches we learned in the past few weeks as numerous users in a few Country groups we launched have come after us due to this.
Since Khoros has no method to unsubscribe users who do not exist in Community, you will likely need to include a link to your marketing / platform opt out mechanism, or whatever is used to generate the list you got their email from in the first place.
TLDR; Make sure this email has an unsubscribe link at the button else your Community is breaking endless laws probably 🚫
Edit: This is the email you would need to edit/add unsubscribe links to
Oh wow, thank you for the heads up!
I'm checking with my Legal team to be 100% certain and will post again to let you know the results. I will confirm that we have added the "Unsubscribe" link in the email templates for Aurora (including this one) when we rewrote the templates.
@LarryI Curious how it works in Aurora for the email templates if the user has no account in Khoros? If the user clicks unsubscribe, what happens on the Khoros side to ensure they won't ever get an email again? (As that is where I am stuck today and linking back to our in-product unsubscribe vs Khoros). Wasn't sure if there is some hidden functionality maybe already tucked away in there 🙈
@StanGromer At this time, we don't have a mechanism to prevent a user without an account & defined email from receiving an email. Most templates are dependent on the user having an account but there are situations in which we are allowing for inviting users to the community (which will then create an account for the user pre-emptively).
No hidden mechanism but I'll look into this and see what we need for this should a user receive an invite to join the community and they unsubscribe!
Quick update @StanGromer - We'll explore adding a "no email" list that unregistered user can use to refuse future emails. If they end up registering on the community, we'll need to remove them from the list in order to begin notifying them again.
To be clear, we will only be adding this into Aurora as part of the next year's roadmap.
@LarryI What about existing Khoros communities and informing them of this (I think) giant hole that exists today based on *laws*?
I found a bug/issue, now inform everyone else so they can fix it for the time being? I realize this isn’t on you, but the facts are the facts, and Support/you telling me a fix is coming is meaningless if we already fixed it. I’m legit worried that Khoros (constantly) doesn’t proactively tell the other 99.9% of problems that are 100% impacting them. (I worry because that means it’s happening to me and my community I am responsible for as well. Khoros keeps making me look bad).
@StanGromer Of course! I have informed the whole team about this and am in active discussions with our Legal team to fully understand what the requirements are so we can fix for everyone else (including existing communities).
