I just entered my first reply to a discussion post and attempted to paste in a screenshot which did nothing. Is this functionality not available? Is it coming soon? This feels very basic and am hoping our users will have this when we launch. Thanks for any info on this! FYI @cgrinton @Kmay
Solved! Go to Solution.
Hi @jomyke,
It is sad that this functionality is currently not available. You have to click the 'Photos' icon in the RTE and upload the image/sceenshot into the post, or drag and drop the image file onto 'Choose File' as an attachment.
Thanks,
Srujana.
Thanks, @BeckyS! Is there an estimated date yet for this one? It doesn't have to be specific; just wondering in general what you guys are thinking - 1st half 2019, etc?
Thank GOD ! 🙂
You CAN do this! It's not that obvious how to do it, but once you learn, it will save you a ton of time.
Basically:
(1) Take your screenshot, and make sure it's on your clipboard
(2) In your post on your Lithium community, bring up the photo-uploader
(3) In the photo-uploader modal window, click on the right side (the white bar), then click into the grey editor area. Then Cmd-V to paste
That's it! Your screenshot will paste in as an image, and you can add it to your post! Sometimes it takes me a couple rounds of clicking around the photo-upload modal to get it to work, but it does.
I took a tiny video to try and explain what I mean by clicking on the right side and then the editor area (uploading as a gif since I apparently can't upload videos here; hope it works!):
WOO HOO !!!!! thank you !!!
Thanks for this alternative solution, Caroline! While this is possible, if it's not intuitive, it kind of defeats the purpose as regular visitors will have no idea how to do this. Looking forward to seeing a modern solution aligning to user expectations from by Lithium!

Definitely agree that this isn't something that regular visitors will do; but it's handy for admins. Also looking forward to a better solution!
Has the proposed solution come out yet? It looks like even the temporary work around doesn't work now.
Hi @shaji,
with editor V2 it should work to insert images from clipboard. Just had a quick try and it worked.
Hi everyone, this is definitely available since 19.6, and as @JuergenM mentioned, it should work right here, right now
V2 is key to your success. My TAM informed me there were issues/bugs with this current functionality so I have not upgraded to turn it on yet.
I need v2 first but I am not doing that until this is resolved. Want to ensure a good experience for members.
We had issues with cut and paste not working on 19.6 @mhock, but they have been resolved in 19.7 so just make sure you are on 19.7 and you should be fine.
I just did a drag and drop for the image below and all is well.
Jason
Looks like this does not work in the latest version released (19.8)
@shaji We have 19.7 on production and 19.9 in stage and it works on both.
Ok didn't work on 19.6 and 19.8 for me. Will wait for next version
Somewhere along the line we've lost the ability to copy/paste into forums and TKBs (we can still do it in blogs). Drag/drop works fine. Anyone else?
You're right @kgroneman. Good pick-up. Cut and paste is not working here or on our community.
Tagging @SohilM - are you aware of this?
Jason
We are also eagerly awaiting the fix for this.
@JasonHill Thanks for tagging me.
It works fine on our core environments.
On Atlas, below is an image I was able to copy-paste. However, when I tried multiple times to repeat the action in the same reply, it did not work for me either (it works after refresh). I see that there are Content Security Policy (CSP) headers blocking the copy paste. Let us investigate and get back to you on this.
Also, @JasonHill @JuergenM can you please let me know if you are unable to copy-paste at all?
@kgroneman We use the same editor for Blogs, Forums & TKBs. It should work on all Blogs, TKB, Forums or on none. Can you please confirm again that it works only for Blogs and not on TKB/ Forums in your community?
Not working for me here. If I try to paste an image, all that happens is a line break is inserted - so a blank line and certainly no image. If I then switch to an app like MS Word I can successfully paste the pic into a doc, so there's definitely something wrong here.
Then if I go to preview, I get the error message that invalid HTML was found in the message body and it's been removed.
Jason
@SohilMLet's try again.
I took a screenshot and was able to paste it to Powerpoint. Next <ctrl>+<v> here
So, it works and at the same time, I see this in the console (same method)
I'm somewhat puzzled....
@JasonHill I have a support case open and I'm told there is "one other customer with the same bug report".... I guess that's you. 🙂 Thanks @JuergenM for letting us know.
@SohilM Now I can't paste to the blog. It's intermittent??? FYI you folks did change our CSP for us recently.
@JasonHill @JuergenM @kgroneman Copy pasting images from MS word works fine and there is no issue regarding that.
We are investigating into the Content Security Policy (CSP) errors that are blocking if we try copy paste from an external website or directly from clipboard (open an image on external website/ desktop and trying to copy paste it in community). We will update on this in a few days.
Also, please note that if CSP blocks copy paste even once, it will not allow copy pasting images from MS word as well unless the page is refreshed. If we use copy paste only from MS word, it will work without any intermittent issues you have been observing.
Thanks @SohilM . Most of our copy/paste activity is just from the windows clipboard.
@kgroneman @JasonHill @JuergenM We investigated the issue and found out that two things:
@JasonHill, I suggest you raise a support ticket so our support team can check on this. However, it looks like modifying your CSP to include blob:
should work.
