Hi,
Our support community recently moved to Lithium and we are at the stage where we need to set up user reports in LSI. What is the best report for actions and content generated by a specific group of people?
Example: Managers would like to see a report on the contributions of ten support engineers who are tasked with generating content and answering questions in our community. Contributions can be discussions, replies, blog posts, etc.
Based on what I have found in LSI and what I see in the metrics in the Admin panel, I don't see an obvious way to generate one report that contains all of this information. Is that correct?
Thanks for any insight,
Linda

Hi @Inactive User -
This is indeed possible, though it's not at all intuitive and took me forever to find the first time around :). I actually learned to use the Bulk Data API to get the data I needed before I realized that it was actually in LSI, just not where I expected! (but, hey, now I can use the Bulk Data API!)
Go to the CONTENT tab on the left in LSI, then click All Categories, then Members. This gives you a list of all members who have contributed. You can then filter by role, so, assuming your ten support engineers are assigned a role, you will be able to generate this report.
Vaguely useful screenshot below:
Hope this helps!

@CarolineS Thank you! They have a role but it is generic ("employee") but I can assign them a more specific role for reporting. Thank you!
I also love the User Report and use it just about every day for something. Some things aren't available in the user report though... I can't quite remember what, but I swear there was a reason I needed to use the LSI report....
@CarolineS Exactly what I was looking for and I didn't have to ask. Thanks. 🙂 One more question on it: Can you save a report or do I have to go through the process of setting up the report every time? Once month I need to run this report on users from one specific role and export it to .csv so I pull just the info I need and pass it along in a report. It would sure be nice to save the report definition and just change the date range when needed. (I'm basically lazy.)
Hi @kgroneman - glad my info was useful! And, yes, you can schedule reports. Click the little gear right above the table of data in LSI (NOT the one above the graph), and click "Schedule report." From there, you can pick options about frequency and such.
Cheers!

P.S. Laziness can be a virtue!
Schedule a report
Scheduling dialog - can select Once, Daily, Weekly, or Monthly as frequency
Lot of great points from @CarolineS and @JasonHill in this thread. Here's my personal experience with User Reports vs. Member metrics in LSI.
User Reports are most helpful in determining where all users stand in the community or filtering by specific role. You get metrics from each member at the community level (overall) and I like to analyze where members will fall in the rank structure or determining activity levels for superusers. Great for reviewing metrics overall.
The Members tab in LSI has a good amount of the same metrics you can get in User Reports, but unlike User Reports, you can drill down to see which categories and nodes the members are participating in. You can filter activity by role as well. The drawback is that you can't get a full list of all users in the community, even through exporting to CSV.
There are benefits to both so I hope you consider using both in different ways. 🙂
Thanks all. I wish I could mark more than one reply in this thread as the solution. - Kim
@LarryI @CarolineS Thank you for the information. I am noticing an issue with the LSI 'All Categories' / 'Members' data. If that is supposed to be pulling member activity across all categories, why wouldn't it show articles posted to a TKB?
So when looking across all categories and the data is only showing topics published and replies authored, it really is depicting an accurate activity log across all categories?
So is this data only looking for topics posted in forums and replies in forums? This doesn't include blogs or TKBs?
I am trying to find a report that shows me a user list that shows, are they posting topics to forums, are they replying, are they authoring solutions, and they contributing to TKBs or Blogs, etc.
Are their any User Reports that capture this information?
@LarryI @CarolineS Another question about the User Reports in Admin Metrics. Does the 'Posts' data in the User Report include 'Replies' to topics? I am trying to see which of our Solution Consultants are participating in our forums and want to make sure I am fully capturing their activity.
@Wendy_S I am noticing some confusing data on the user metrics report. Do you know how it would be possible for a user to have 6 posts, 0 board views, and 436 posts read? What defines a 'board view' and how could someone be viewing posts without going to any boards?
Thanks!
@mvanpelt let me attempt to clear up some of your confusion.
Board View = total number of times an overview page for a board or forum is viewed. Think of the overview page as the area you would see all the posts within a board. I've attached a screenshot example from the Khoros community to give you some clarity. The Li discussions board below is the overview page you see when you go to that section of the community. The one before that is the category where the board lives, in this case the Lithium Community product category.
How would it be possible to have no board views, but have multiple posts being read? Two idea come to mind for me: Either your users are clicking directly into the posts from an activity stream or something of the like, or through SEO. If someone searches a question, either through google or on the community search bar, they won't go to the board where that post is placed, but will get a list of similar posts on a search result. Image below (A little small but I wanted to show you more than just this return on the search).
If I click into a post from this search result, I would be bypassing the board completely and be going directly to the post. Since I didn't go to the board overview page where all discussion for Li community would be located, it wouldn't create a board view in your data set. But it would be a post read.
Does this make sense?
