Mass update URLs in old posts after domain change

Unfortunately, the domain for our Knowledge Base was changed ... Obviously, there are MANY posts with links that are now broken.

Is there any way to mass update through all old posts and responses (text and/or hyperlinks) like:

Find: http://a.com/id/123

Replace with: http://b.com/id/123

Would help the users findinng the old posts in search and not understanndinng why the link fails

Thanks

Hi,

Is this a lithium KB or somethign else? if somethign you host and you still own have access tot he old domain couldnt you just place a re-direct on it to the new domain, even something as crude as a re-direct using .htaccess would put a stop to the 404's

If a lithium KB, Li support should be able to help do something.

Regards

Stephen

No, it's not an LI KB ...

The product was sold and, while the LI Community was/is on the product domain, the KB used the old company's domain and they've stopped redirecting

I see, I guess the host/owner of the old domain are not willing to support in terms of putting a re-direct in? I guess it depends on your CMS but we did something similar with an old help site i managed where we had to change all the internal hyperlinks of around 1.5k articles because the domain changed. We had to put the content in change freeze, export all content in *.csv, edit it using find/replace then import the content back into the system, long winded but it worked.

The old owner has their own KB there ...
The Community has over 100K posts (plus comments) ... pity you can't edit the database directly 😞

Have you asked lithium support if they could do a batch job for you to update old links in posts on your community? may be worth a try...

Well, I don't have access to that ... I recommended Lithium back in 2008 for them. They've just asked if I can help with this and a couple of other issues - or if we should change to new software. I'd prefer the status-quo 🙂

I assume you're not with Lithium?
How long did it take and what cost for the 1.5K?
Would you know any suitable tech that might contribute to this thread?

If the cost is too high, they might decide to switch

Not with Lithium, just someone that lingers around these boards... the 1.5k was on a different system, took a few days of our own time so didn't really cost us anything. Lithium staff normally comment so may be worth holding out for one of them to pop up.
