Searching by Tag

Hi All,

We used to be able to search using tags:(<tagname>) in the search page and get only matching tags but I noticed this changed recently, has anyone else had a similar issue and is there a way to make it work again?

What is the version of your community?  It working fine on 17.10.

There is no separate filter for a tag on the search page. However, it still searches the messages with the tag name if you type the tag name inside the search box.

The main thread should contain that tag which you are searching for.

There is an API available for searching the messages using tag https://community.lithium.com/t5/Developer-Documentation/bd-p/dev-doc-portal?section=commv2&collecti...

Hi @allensmith81,

I believe Tech community is on 17.8

Search by tags is working fine on 17.9 and 17.10

Thanks,

Srujana.

Seems to be working fine here on the Lithium Community running 17.10, e.g. searching for the "tag issue" tag you used on this topic I get a highlighted match:

I'm not sure if you were referring to a specific search syntax that would only search in tags. Could be that the sad smiley in your original message ate half of it. Maybe you can clarify what search term you were using and if you would expected only tag matching then.

Thanks Claudius,

I confirm what your seeing but we have one stakeholder who used to use

tags:("Tag Issue")

As far as I was aware this wouldn't search only by tags but I wanted to be sure I wasn't missing something.

Thanks for sharing that example. I learned something new today as I didn't know that functionality existed. I actually assume (not having verified by looking at code though) that this must be some sort of special ElasticSearch syntax probably. It behaves a bit erratic though:

  1. Fuzzy matching as searching for tags:(Power) shows messages with all tags containing "Power" http://community.powerbi.com/t5/forums/searchpage/tab/message?q=tags%3A%28Power%29&collapse_discussi...
  2. If there are no matches it seems to revert to just a broad matching, e.g. here's "test": http://community.powerbi.com/t5/forums/searchpage/tab/message?q=tags%3A%28test%29&collapse_discussio...

I'm wondering if this is a feature at all or if we are making a connection based on observing search results that might be just coincidence. The search results for "DAX" tags is pretty convincing, but e.g. on the bottom of page 30 of the search results I see a message that doesn't even have any tags: http://community.powerbi.com/t5/forums/searchpage/tab/message?q=tags%3A%28DAX%29&nospellcheck=true&p...

Hey Claudius,
I agree but without conclusive evidence either way I need to understand what we are seeing here so I can explain it to my stakeholders 😊
I have opened a support ticket with this question as well

Just wandered around the (virtual) hallways of Lithium Community dev and picked up that what you are describing there is some part of the Lucene query language being exposed. This isn't anything we are actively testing and supporting though.

The query syntax to concatenate multiple tags would be

tags:(tagabc%20and%20tagxyz)

but the results seem to be a bit off, e.g. here's search results for "DAX and RLS" which I took from PowerBI community's tag cloud:

http://community.powerbi.com/t5/forums/searchpage/tab/message?q=tags%3A%28DAX%20and%20RLS%29

I wondered this too.

@allensmith81 I was hoping that https://community.powerbi.com/t5/tag/Tag%20Issue/tg-p was going to help but it doesn't seem to work when I edited the URL to include your mentioned tag. I'm only seeing labels as a guest so maybe tags are hidden until your authenticated.
