What happens to existing links if I add a new nofollow exception?

We've currently got two domains exempted from the rel=nofollow setting under System > SEO. What happens if I add another domain? Will it only take effect on links to that domain input by users going forward or will existing links to that domain be updated automatically?

@DavidKastendick I tested this out and found that with an existing link in a post, let's say "https://www.khoros.com/"

If you put "*.khoros.com" in the field for "Don't set rel=nofollow for these domains", it will remove the "rel=nofollow" attribute from all existing "khoros.com" links in the community.  In short, it is retroactive and applies to all links in the community.
