When I start to @mention someone it shows the people who are in the topic already if I put in just an @. But if I add other letters and put in a couple letters of the people who are in the topic it doesn't match on them. There are even cases where I have put the whole username exactly and it won't locate the user.
Why do people who are in the topic disappear from the top people in the list even if the letters match exactly on the first couple letters? I think as you type the people in the thread should stay in the suggestions until the letters don't match.
Having only 5 options for both content and for users is frustrating especially if I know a person's username but can't get it to come up in the suggestions.
In JX it will give you more than 5 options and you can also use @" to strictly look at users that start with the letters as you type them.
For content there isn't any suggestions finding a title? I tried using underscores where there are spaces between words and sometimes it finds the topic and other times it doesn't.
Are there tips and tricks I should know with being more successful? Jive didn't suggest the people already in the post when using @mentions but otherwise they had @Mentions working more effectively. You could also mention Forum boards and Group Hubs by name and it would have an icon beside it to show you that the link you were linking to was on the community and not an external link.
Solved! Go to Solution.
@MarkAtTruth You can increase the number of suggestions to show for users and content from Community Admin > Features > @mentions. (You can modify it up to 100).
When you type @, you can continue to type words with space to find the article you are searching for. These results are the same auto-suggest results you get in the search bar.
W.r.t User mentions, when you continue typing, you will get results that match with usernames across the community. To continue to show users in the thread on top even when you type letters after @, would be an enhancement. We will look into it. Can you please submit an idea request for this.
Ability to mention places (forum board or a group hub) is in our backlog.
I'll just add my .02 as I am laughing about it - What you call out about typing "@MA" and not having @MarkAtTruth show up in the picklist is extremely annoying. Even trying to type it out here, I still make the same mistake after four years - It's muscle memory for me to make the mistake every single time, my brain knows to backspace 4 times, and I hit @ again and choose a name.
@MarkAtTruth YES! @ mentioning drives me batty. See my own lovely animated gif below which I think matches your experience! (I don't seem to have permission to upload video files here, alas).

Yes our members coming from Jive will also be muscle memory typing @ and the first couple letters because our JX community doesn't try to suggest the people already participating in the topic. I think once they get a hang of it they'll like that it does that but it drives me crazy that it can't find me. I also have no idea what to do when a person has a dash or _ in their username. We have people who have periods as well but will be working to get those taking out in the future since they might be problematic.
@SohilM Thanks for the suggestions on increasing the number that show. I'll look into that.
I'll also submit an idea as well. @CarolineS and @StanGromer hopefully I have your "legendary" support 😁
@CarolineS Yes it does match my experience.
Jive @Mentioning is much better in some ways but has its own faults as well.
Here you can see that Jive also has issues finding me at times but other times it doesn't Most of the time if someone puts in @"mark it will locate me but here you can see I have to look at the > Show More multiple times until I appear in the list. It finds content as well and it links it. If the content ever changes then the title changes as well. The nifty little icons tell you that the link is local instead of offsite as well so you know what kind of content you are linking to so people feel that the link is more trustworthy.
@SohilM Glad this posted I got error "Cannot convert blob:https://community.khoros.com/76500549-21c7-4ed6-8eca-cfe3b2bd926d to Blob. Resource might not exist or is inaccessible." after posting the above post. It didn't appear until I refreshed the page.
Thanks for submitting the idea. Let me look into the issue on image upload.
@StanGromer I do agree with you that in this thread, showing 'markatTruth' on top (instead of you having to clear and then select from the default list) after typing @ma would be a better experience. As you already may be aware, we are working on a project to completely reimagine the community experience and we will consider this as part of the project.
