Smarter Sourcing Within Intelligence
We analyzed product data and had conversations with some of the world’s leading brands on how they use social listening to capture reliable insights.
Market leading companies use social listening for:
- Marketing campaign planning and insights
- Brand health (brand specific keywords relating to their company, industry)
- Competitive benchmarking
- Audience insights
- Influencer identification
We found that what differentiates the best performing brands from the rest is that their use of such social listening tools is deliberate, focused and disciplined. Your starting point should always be to come up with a focused question.
A lot of Intelligence users tend to struggle with poorly formed queries. We have found that these types of searches are rarely useful to brands. Examples of such searches:
- covid
- 2022
- En
- nft
Searches like these tend to pull in billions of pieces of content, as they are generic and not in the context of the brand. Such broad queries don’t offer utility in a brand’s day-to-day campaign work. In fact, after Interviewing several Intelligence users, we learned that our users have too much data and end up wasting a lot of time. There’s too much noise and too little signal. This is why we are introducing a change to searches in Intelligence.
This small change will help eliminate noise and help you get on track to frame queries with more focused results. Moving forward, we will restrict the use of very broad queries (i.e., queries that are too simple and yield extreme volumes of data). When you frame a query we will show you a pop-up that nudges you to be more deliberate in framing your query, with some expert tips on how to refine your search.
Our goal is for you to be more deliberate and laser-focused, so that you derive more signal and less noise.
What does this mean for your user experience?
When you land on Intelligence and run a search, we will run a quick check based on our algorithms to see if the search is a focused one or a broad one.
If we detect that it is a broad search, we will display a pop-up that will nudge you to reframe your query and make it more specific. We expect this change will only affect the broadest of query searches (the top 1% of broad searches being pulled) and if you already enter search queries smartly, you won't see it at all.
An example of the pop-up is displayed below:
To get smarter around how you frame queries, you can leverage this resource. You will also see this article linked directly on the pop-up (when you frame a broad query) on Intelligence.
