About Aurora Likes
Likes and liking content are how community members recognize content that they think is helpful, well formed, insightful, or otherwise generally valuable. When someone likes a post, they are giving both the content and the author a thumbs-up. The net effect is that likes boost the value of the post and enhance the reputation of its author. Liked content also enables community managers to identify and organize content that community visitors might find most relevant. For example, displaying leaderboards (coming in a future release) for liked content on a community home page can create a virtual FAQ where visitors can see the posts with the most Likes, which often map to the most commonly asked questions or topics on a community. Likewise, in forums, people can quickly find the most popular or important posts. In search results, the Likes indicator below the content preview offers a quick way to see if the content has been useful to other members. Each Like a member receives or gives is tracked in the system, enabling this activity to be used as a criterion for community rewards and recognition. How do Likes work? When Likes are enabled in a community (or for a board), members with the proper permissions can click Like to recognize the post and its author. As an admin, you can manage the permissions for Likes. The permission is enabled by default to all community members. To manage the ability for community members to use Likes: Note: To manage this permission at a lower level, go to the [Place] Permissions page and edit the permission defaults for that level. To manage this permission for a particular role, go to the [Place] Permissions page at the desired level of the community and edit the permissions of the individual roles. Go to the Roles and Permissions page for the community. Beside Community Permissions Defaults, click Edit. In the left column, click Likes. In the Likes section, beside Like content, select Deny or Grant as required.. Unless you have specified different permissions for certain roles or levels below the community level (a category, group, or board), this selection affects all members of the community. When Likes are enabled in a community (or for a board), if you have the proper permissions, you can click Like to recognize the post and its author. The Like button may display on forum topics, comments, replies, blog posts, knowledge base articles, or other types of content. Once you’ve liked the content, the Like button changes to Liked and is displayed in blue to indicate you’ve already taken the Like action: You can like a post only once. The number beside Like indicates how many total members have liked the post. You can click the number to view a list of those who have liked the content. Note: You cannot like your own content. To remove your Like, click the Like button again, which is now displayed as Liked. After you’ve removed your Like, the button returns to its original state.
