About Aurora community languages
Reaching all your customers and enabling them to connect with each other is important regardless of the languages they speak. That’s why we offer the ability to translate your Aurora communities and email notifications into many different languages. The following languages are currently supported: Chinese (Simplified) zh-CN Dutch (Netherlands) nl-NL English (Great Britain) en-GB English (United States) en-US French fr-FR German de-DE Italian it-IT Korean ko-KR Japanese ja-JP Norwegian no-NO Polish pl-PL Portuguese (Brazil) pt-BR Portuguese (Portugal) pt-PT Russian ru-RU Spanish (Mexico) es-MX Spanish (Spain) es-ES Swedish sv-SE To make any of these languages available to your members, refer toEnable languages in your community. Community members can update their Community language in standard communities or their Email language in localized communities in their member profile preferences. From Designer, you can define which languages are used in your community. You can also set which language to use by default. English is set as the default language for all new communities. Note: At this time, the available languages are English, Spanish, French, and Japanese. More languages will be added in a future release. To enable additional languages in your community: Open the Account menu and go to Designer > Community Text. In the row of Enabled languages, click Edit. Use the Add language drop-down menu to select languages you want to be available in your community. Enabled languages list above the Add language menu. Click Remove beside a language in that list to remove languages you no longer need. (Optional) If you want to set a language other than English as the default, in the row of that language in the Enabled languages list, click Set as Default. The Localized Communities feature enables you, as an admin, to create multiple “versions” of your community—each one in a different language. After you map your top-level categories to the languages you have enabled in your community, your customers are directed to the language category that best matches their browser settings. To enable Localized Communities in your community, you must first open a Support ticket. Create a localized category Map a localized category to a language Create a localized category Important: We recommend that you set up your localized categories on a stage environment before setting them up on your production environment. Doing so enables you to reference the stage setup during the production setup for a quicker configuration process. Additionally, if your production community is already live with your customers, we recommend that you set up your localized categories during non-peak activity hours. Note: Creating a localized category is a similar process to creating a regular category in the community. However, after you have enabled Localized Categories with Khoros Support, additional configuration is required to map your categories appropriately once you create them. To create a localized category: Go to the Community Structure page. At the community level, click Add (plus icon). On the window, enter a Name and ID. The ID displays in the URL for the category. Note: The ID must be a single word made of only letters, numbers, dashes, and underscores with no spaces. It cannot be changed later. Optionally, enter a Description and add an Avatar for the category. Click Create. For your new localized category to work properly, you must next map it to a language. Map a localized category to a language After you have created your localized category, you need to map it to a language so the community can be translated to the correct language for the category. Click the Features > Localized Categories link in the Action Needed alert. Or, navigate to Settings > Features > Localized Categories. On the Language Mapping screen, in the Mapped to column of the language you want to map to your new category, select that category. After you map your top-level categories to the languages you have enabled in your community, your customers are directed to the language category that best matches their browser language. However, as a secondary measure, they can use the language selector to change languages. In Designer, you can turn on an option to view community text strings as text keys instead of the normally displayed screen text. This enables you to identify the text key value and edit it in the text properties files accessible from Dev Tools. Note: In a future release, admins will be able to edit text keys within the Aurora user interface. When you turn on this option, it is enabled only for the currently signed-in community admin. Other admins (unless they also turn on the option) and community members don’t see an option in the community for toggling on and off text keys. To view text keys in the community: Open the Account menu and go to Designer > Community Text. Turn on the Toggle text keys in the community option. The Currently enabled for [current username] text appears to let you know that the feature is turned on only for you while you browse the community. Go to a page in the community where you want to view the text keys. View text keys as necessary. You can toggle text keys off and on using the Settings menu at the bottom-left corner of the page and clicking either Hide Text Keys or View Text Keys. If you click Turn off Text Key Toggle, the Toggle text keys in the community option is turned off automatically in Designer and all text keys are hidden.94Views0likes0CommentsAurora: About Localized Communities
Many global companies have customers who speak a wide variety of languages. In Aurora, the Localized Communities feature enables you to create different segments of the community for specific audiences; in this case, these audiences speak different languages, and the categories are translated to those languages. Say that you have customers who speak English and customers who speak Spanish. Localized Communities enables you, as an admin, to create two “versions” of your community—one in English and one in Spanish. After you map your top-level categories to the languages you have enabled in your community, your customers are directed to the language category that best matches their browser language. However, as a secondary measure, they can use the language selector to change languages. Keep in mind that member-generated content is not translated into any other languages. Therefore, if a community member happens to create English content in the Spanish localized category, that post is not translated to Spanish and retains its original language. Note: As of Aurora Communities 24.05, Spanish and English are the available languages for Localized Communities. More languages will be available in a future release. Note: At this time, these top-level categories are for localization purposes only. In the future, additional use cases may be available for top-level categories. For different product lines or discussion areas, use Categories instead. To enable Localized Communities for your community, open a Support ticket. Most of the Localized Categories settings are similar to settings for normal categories. Read on to learn more about settings specific to the Localized Communities feature. To adjust additional Localized Communities settings: Go to Settings > Community Structure. For the category whose settings you want to configure, open the Options menu and click Edit. Alternatively, you can use the place picker on any settings page to access the category’s settings. In the left column, click Display Settings. In the Category Dashboard section, click Edit to adjust the following settings: Category banner title Category banner description Click Save.
