On the 25th of May 2018, the General Data Protection Regulation (GDPR) will go into effect. This is a regulation by which the European Parliament, the Council of the European Union, and the European Commission intends to strengthen data protection for all individuals in the European Union.

Lithium has been receiving questions about the plans that Online Communities has for GDPR support, and in this regard, the following is a quick update:

A few weeks ago, we began working on the different aspects of our product portfolio that relate to the handling of personal data (Personally Identifiable Information (PII)). We have also had the opportunity to have discussions with some of our customers to understand the expectations and requirements around GDPR and to validate our plans.

Based on these discussions, we are now working on three areas for GDPR support:

  1. PII retrieval
  2. PII deletion
  3. Demonstrating Compliance

These enhancements are currently in development. Our first release for GDPR support is planned in March (previously January) 2018, and we target completion before the May 2018 GDPR deadline. We will also have a limited beta-program in December 2017 that we will invite you to be a part of.

To help with some of the most common questions we have heard in the discussions so far, we now have a GDPR FAQ for your reference. Hope you find this useful.

Write to us if there are any questions or if any additional information is needed about our plans for GDPR support.

  • This is super helpful. I just jumped through all the hoops involved in prepping the SolarWinds THWACK community for GDPR. While the platform the community is on is Lithium JX, I am happy to help anyone who has any questions about the process and how it can be worked through for communities. I'm not legal counsel, though. Take it all with a grain of salt.

  • This blog post says Lithium's first release for GDPR support is planned in January 2018. However, I have not seen documentation for the GDPR API in the Community application, including in the Community 18.1 Release Notes posted on February 9. Have I missed this information, or can we get an update on when this capability should be available? Thanks!

  • Hello,

It is mentioned that first release for GDPR support is planned in January 2018 . Any updates on this as we are on February 19 and still first release is not rolled out

  • Hi,

From above commentary and release notes, I understand that solution for GDPR is part of 18.2 . However, could you also share about the roadmap for this specific functionality that what all features will be phased out with different releases till May

deeptsi2 As you noted, starting with 18.2, we support features to help with GDPR compliance and have now support in API and UI for permanent anonymization of personal data in the Community in the event of a user delete. We are continuing to make enhancements on this area and in the next two releases, plan to enhance support with controls to view, edit, delete and export a user's personal data.

Please let us know if there are any specific questions and we would be more than glad to share the details.
