Automatic group membership upon new community account creation

If I am not a community member visiting a groups page, when I go to sign up for a community account, is it possible to become a community member AND a member of the group at the same time? 

 

Essentially I'm trying to eliminate the step of "joining a group" after becoming a community member, saving the user a click!

    Hi mrkevanlin,

     

    Yes, you can achieve this by following the below steps:

    A) To add group members without an invitation:

    1. Go to Community Admin > Discussion Styles > Groups > All Groups.
    2. Click List Users next to a group to be automatically scoped to this group level. 
    3. Pre-approve members by adding all users with a particular community role.
    4. Click Add Members by Community Role.

    B) Add a new role when user registers as mentioned in following SS:

      This answers the original question, but doesn't seem like a elegant solution considering it would give ALL new users the role and then ALL users would be automatically added to a group, rather than users taking a specific action (eg. registering for an account from a specific group page)
