Autosuggest in Custom Search Component

We have written a custom search component placed on the right sidebar set to search inside a blog. Everything seems to be working correctly but we cannot get autosuggest to function at all. As far as we can tell all of the autosuggest coding is included in the code but the popup never appears.

Any suggestions are greatly appreciated.
