Best way to create a Featured Threads/Posts page?

Right now I'm creating a section for customers we have a "private support" relationship with; i.e., they have their own Category page that contains a TKB, a Forum, and Ideas. 

Ideally, I'd like to create or use an existing View All Featured Posts URL for Featured Threads or Articles, just like 

 

t5/forums/recentpostspage/post-type/message/board-id/BOARDNAME 

but instead

t5/forums/featuredpostspage/post-type/message/category-id/CATEGORYNAME

 

  • Does this already exist? 
  • If not, what are the best practices to create one?
  • How can I have this be in the correct place in the hierarchy for both the breadcrumbs and other ancestor queries, just as the recentposts URL above resolves in the proper hierarchy

SO FAR:

  • Created a custom page ViewAllCategoryItems.quilt.xml, which uses a custom component (below), which just calls those and lists them: 
  • In the custom componentViewAllFeatured.ftl, using LiQL 2, I pull all featured conversations within that category, whether a discussion or TKB article (SELECT conversation.featured, subject FROM messages WHERE category.id = 'mycategory' AND conversation.featured = true AND depth = 0)
  • BUT, because it's a custom page, it's at /t5/custom/page/page-id/JMPViewAllCategoryItems?category=mycategory

    Yes, it would work category also. 

    t5/forums/featuredpostspage/post-type/message/category-id/CATEGORYNAME

    Make sure your all forums, blogs, TKB etc. are created inside this category.  So it can fetch the messages from all the section exist in this category.

    Thank you VikasB ... can you point me to where in the documentation I can find this and other types of OOTB list endpoints? (or SuzieH)

    Hi, thanks VikasB, I meant documentation specifically about the url for listing pages for both (in this case) featured topics, and what other ones are available? Am I missing that on the links you included?

     

    How does that url pattern work? Can any conversation style work? Etc.

    t5/forums/featuredpostspage/post-type/message/category-id/CATEGORYNAME

     I am not seeing this work as expected. I get a Page Not Found error with the link (with a valid category id on the end). In fact, using that url logs me out! SuzieH do you have any input on this? Thanks.

    It seems I mentioned the different URL because now the mentioned URL does not work for me also. But believe me this morning I tried something which was working fine but I did not remember exactly what was that. Seems it was something else in the URL but when I replied you I copied from your question, not from my browser :( . I will try again and will get back to you with some input.  Really apologies IanAtJMP

    Might be it was recentpost instead of featuredpost in URL that's why it was working.  Anyway, let's wait to hear from SuzieH. If there is no such option, soon I will share you a custom one. Really we are good in customisation.  Will send you the PM if I will need any input from you.
