Customizing the display of user rank and role icons

We want to display specific role icons that are associated to the customer's contract. This icon is only visible to users with roles specific to employees. We also want to display other role icons below the rank name. I had done some work around this and found that I cannot modify the view-profile-banner that controls this display on the topic page message list.

Our current role icon display places all the icons just to the right of the user name. We want to split them so that the subscription icons are next to the user name, but the specialist icons are below the rank name. Thanks in advance.
