Saving CSS in Studio deathly slow?

Hiya,

Trying to work out whether or not Studio saves CSS really slowly or it's our connection. Any once experience slow saving?

Thanks

R

  • We find it relatively slow on the communities we support (normally at least 5 seconds). I don't think the issue is limited to CSS changes, but they tend to be more noticeable as you often end up making several changes in quick succession.

I would hazard a guess that part of the reason for the delay is that every change in studio results in the creation of a new 'version', which will entail a call out to the underlying version control system to commit the changes.

The only work around I am aware of is to try to limit the number of CSS changes in Studio by experimenting first in a browser tool like FireBug.

    We've definitely experienced this.

thanks... it's pretty terrible, slows down dev time.. each save takes a minute or two

More a workaround than anything else - but have you tried linking temporarly your CSS from an external server which you have access to for the initial phases of the development? In that way you could get the bulk of the work done and then move it in the Studio Skin Editor (where change are, of course, versioned - hence more processing time is required when saving).

It wouldn't be exacly the same thing (as you know the CSS in Studio is processed by the platform to determine the final rules to apply) but I reckon it could speed up your efforts initially. Although I have to say it never takes me that long (1-2 minutes) to save the CSS in studio so normally I just use Studio.
