While all of them are not a mandate but FTL, jQuery, JS are something which are very important to develop anything on lithium. Also the knowledge of the web services is also very crucial if you're developing some custom features. Other than this, you can have many live examples from the community itself, here are the getting started links. You can always post your queries here in the dev section.
