If you're referring to counts for things like nominations, drafts, etc., then I'm not aware of any way to retreive that information via the REST API. If you're interested in having these methods, I'd strongly suggest submitting the idea to our Idea Exchange.
One alternate to consider is that the "Knowledge Base Dashboard Tabs" component (tkb.widget.dashboard-tabs) can be placed on other pages via Studio, such as the Community Page (front page of the community). That would make it easier for your TKB users to access the dashboard and to review the articles in their various stages.
