Using the API to add Contributors to KB Articles

Our company is about to migrate an existing knowledge base  into the Lithium environment.  Among other metadata, we are hoping to preserve a list of contributors for each of our 12K+ knowledge base articles.

I've seen some good resources in the Developer Documentation area ( like this ) and the Developer Knowledge Base, but I haven't come across anything that shows or explains how contributors could be added at the time of message creation or after the fact via updates.

If anyone has successfully programmatically added contributors at message creation time or after the fact, I'd absolutely appreciate any pointers or tips you can provide.
