With Saas you usually don't need to worry too much about the underlying technology since you don't have direct code access to the application itself.
That said my understanding is that Khoros is Java based. I'm not sure on the DB used. Services are hosted on bare metal and now more often on AWS.
Freemarker is the core scripting and template language developers on the platform use to create custom components via the Khoros APIs.
