Using the user_note Email Context Object

Hi there,

Has anyone used the user_note within their email templates? I've come across this context object for Email templates and I see that it will show 'a note to the recipient in the email' but I'm trying to understand how this works. Such as:

  • Where is the 'user_note' pulled from/where is this stored?
  • How is this updated? Is this something the admin/developer would do or is it the user's own note?

If anyone has any examples of this context object being used it would be useful to see this in action.

Thanks,

  • Hi Michael

Some actions allow the sender or person triggering the email to add a note to go to the recipient. For example:

Emailing a message to a friend (Email to a friend)
Inviting users to join a community or group

Both of these give the sender the option of customising the default message that gets sent out. The line in bold below highlights the user_note field.

    Hi NoamanA,

    Thank you for your response.

I'm still confused as to where the user not is createda and stored by the sender?

    Hi Michael

If you click on the Options dropdown on any of the messages in this thread, you'll see an option for 'Email to a friend'.  Choosing this option gives you the following page:

    email_message.png

The user_note is anything contained within the Personal message box.  As far as I know, this isn't stored anywhere and this doesn't go into your outbox either.

If you're adding this field to a customised template, unless the trigger for the email includes a field for user text, the variable won't get populated.

    Does this help?

    Regards

    Noaman
