Aurora: Move content between boards

From time to time, people add content to the wrong place in the community. Sometimes, they don’t realize that there’s a specific forum where similar discussions are taking place or they just start an article or post without thinking about if this is the best place to post or ask their question. As a community manager or moderator with the Move content permission, you can move these topics to a more appropriate board.

You can move a forum discussion, knowledge base article, or blog post and its replies to a different location in the community. However, you can move content only between the boards of the same content type. For example, you can move a forum discussion to another forum and not to a blog, idea, or knowledge base.

Note: You cannot merge two discussions together, but you can move replies from one discussion into another discussion. Refer to Move comment or reply for more information.

To move a post, go to the post you want to move and select the Options > Move option. Then, follow the prompts to move the topic to a more appropriate location.

Note: To move content from one location to another, you must have the Move Content permission.

Let’s look at an example where you want to move a discussion to a different forum in the community.

  • Hi team, I have several users who have posted a question in a QandA section that’s better suited as an idea for the ideas section of our community. Currently there's no option to move or convert a question to an idea short of logging in as the user and reposting.

    • Typically this occurs when they are looking for a feature that doesn't exist yet.
    • The member will ask where the setting is and our answer is that it doesn't exist yet.
    • We'll create an idea for them so that we can gauge interest and make sure it goes on the list of things for us to build.

This process is clunky and won't allow us to scale out the very important work of listening to our customers for much longer. We'd like to avoid moving to another platform that enables this option if possible.

    Questions:

    • Is there a way to convert a post from a question to an idea? This could include via API if there's not somewhere in the UI that I can enable this.
    • If not, when will this feature be on the roadmap?

On Classic we often move posts from a forum to the idea board because what the member is asking for help with is not supported yet. We can tell them to repost it as an Idea, but some customers get offended by that and we try to be more customer centric than that.

Also, not being able to merge discussions will become frustrating. When there's an issue happen members often create new posts when there is one that exists already so we merge them to keep things tidy and so we don't have to post the same reply multiple times

  • We also have many repeating use-cases for Questions that turn into Knowledge. In our aurora world that would be Forum > KB transformation. If I had this feature I could see it happening easily 1X a month on my moderately sized, developer-centric, self-service community. Without this feature it probably happens only 2X / year because most people don't want or need to take the time to manually migrate everything from one Content Type to the other.

Would be nice value add to have such a thing.
