Is it possibly for the articles list for the Forum pages to have a sort function so users can choose if they want to see the latest post, oldest post, most popular post first etc either through a setting or a component. I.e here https://community.servicemax.com/t5/Mobile-Discussions/bd-p/Mobile_Forum . I looked around but could not find a setting and I know sometimes there a components that are not given in the ootb list.
If I'm understanding correctly, the "Node Message List (Preview)" (Component ID: nodes.widget.activity) should do the trick. It can be placed on category pages, forum pages, etc.. It has an OOTB filter for unanswered, solved, latest, and top-kudoed.
Note - there is currently a core bug with this component that allows messages from hidden nodes to show in the feed - so you might wait for the bug to be fixed before you implement this component.

I don't believe there are built-in message lists with sorting, but I may be wrong. I hope I am!
The sorting on forums is, OOTB, done via the little three-dot menu in the upper right. You can sort by Topic Start Date (or Latest Post). See screenshot (oddly, it seems you can't sort when you're not logged in)
