We have launched PM V3 in the beginning of April and just wanted to share what we've learned so far.
Our experts, and really all users, before V3, were able to send a PM to multiple users. They were not able to create a group message which was essentially the ability to select users from within a role or rank and filter them and send the PM to.
Instead experts/user would be able to add more than one user to the recipient list. There was no permission (as far as I can see) that they needed to do this.
With PM V3 they are no longer able to send a PM to multiple users. Experts complained about this.
It seems our experts will need the permission to Use Multi-user Message feature to achieve the same now.
Then the V3 Group message. Initially we thought this would be similar to the email concept where you could initiate a group message and users could reply to you directly or reply to all. There does not seem to be anu nuances. It's a group message from start to end. You can't modify who to reply to. It's always a group conversation.
This is a bit of getting used to because in the individual replies, the context of this being a group conversation gets lost a little. This may be confusing to users in the group conversation and not being aware of what this really means.
Those using it (it is recommended for a limited audience such as admins. mods etc) should be mindful about this. You need to have the permissions Use "Compose Group Message" feature along with Manage roles, user bans, and abuse notifications in admin and user profiles Manage roles in user profiles
But also along withUse Multi-user Message feature (it seems, when testing this)
I must admit. We are still trying to disect all these new permissions so I might have some misinterpretations here 🙂
Some other things we have noticed.
- The replies in group messages are ordered where the recent replies come to the bottom and not the top.
- Replies in group messages. Not intuitive to users receiving a group message that their reply goes to ALL the people in the group message.
Again, we're still learning on the go so I just thought I would share here. I am looking forward to other people's experiences 🙂
