not ideal, but you can set the skin (overriding what is set in the admin for that node) as part of the page initialization logic (http://community.lithium.com/t5/Developers-Knowledge-Base/Using-a-FreeMarker-Page-Initialization-Script/ta-p/125767).
Not sure I fully understand the logic you want to have, but you may need to store the name of the "current" skin in the session and use it to know which skin you want to apply based on that...
